Non-permanent marker From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. A non-permanent marker is a marker often used for making markings where permanence is not required or would be a drawback, as for example marking on overhead projectors or overhead transparencies, or whiteboards. It can be erased with a cloth or paper towel. Some pens require a wet cloth, while dry erase markers can be erased with a dry one. These markers are generally used on non-porous surfaces, as the ink used in the marker has to adhere to the writing surface without being absorbed.
